The Grass is Always Greener…

They say that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. In the case of this query, dear listeners, it seems to be true. It’s always good to adapt when moving somewhere new. This week’s song peers into the seedy underbelly of such a transition. When you finally get where you’re going, even if things seem grim on the other side of that fence, there’s always a solution.

Winners of best kept lawn,
Jeff and Elliott

Dear Jeff and Elliott,

I just moved to Wisconsin and am now the proud owner of a small piece of property. The problem is, I used to live in the city, and I have no experience taking care of a yard. Anything I should know before I ruin everything?

Black-thumbed in Bellevue

“The Grass is Always Greener…”

Dear Black-thumb the Pirate,

So you don’t think that you can take care of a lawn
But if you don’t buck up what will you have a fancy picnic on?
And if you don’t try, where will you rest your head to look at the stars?
If you give up you’ll be a laughing stock and cheeseheads will beat you up in alleys behind bars.

Leinenkugel bottles whizz by your head as you take flight
All because you couldn’t mow the lawn
You’ll go down in the book as a Troglodyte Wisconsinite
All because you couldn’t mow the lawn

If you haven’t been taunted into learning about lawns yet.
This is what you are going to do: on your mark; get ready; set
Go get a job where they pay you lots of dough.
And hire someone else to make your lawn not blow.
