Hip
April 19th, 2010
Does anyone even remember when hipsters came to be? While it’s easy to dismiss a group based on the actions or habits of a far-out few, (I’m lookin’ at you, tea party people! Get it together!) hipsters are really no different than fashionistas, or bohemians, or whatever other sub-culture is created out of a specific style of art or music. If you find hipsters particularly annoying, don’t worry, they probably aren’t TRYING to offend your sensibilities. It’s just a coincidence. Their look and style came about just the same as any other groups’ look and style came about: throw something at the wall and see what sticks. So just because they dress funny, let’s not take it out on their music. We’re sure there’s a guy somewhere rocking out to MGMT while wearing sweat pants and a hoodie.
Winners of best hip look,

Hey Jeff and Elliott,
What’s the deal with hipsters? Do they dress to match their weird music? Are you guys hipsters? I don’t get it.

“Hip”
Dear Apparently Unhip,
We’re all poets under the stars
Watching the heavens through our VCRs
That’s a metaphor
Damn, that’s a good metaphor
We’re deeper than the sands at the bottom of the sea
And nothing’s cooler than this off-kilter beat
Because it’s not part of your system, we do our own thing
Cool sunglasses cooler hair, and skinny jeans.
